Rijksmuseum
The museum exposed the collections of Dutch cities which owned art since 1800 in The Hague. Than it was known as the National Art Gallery.
King Louis Napoleon, the brother of Napoleon Bonaparte moved the museum in 1808 to Amsterdam. The paintings owned by this city, like the Nightwatch of Rembrandt, were part of this collection.
In 1885 the museum moved to its current location which is built by the famous architect Pierre Cuypers. He combined elements from the gothic and renaissance era. The building is well decorated with references to the Dutch artistic history.
The Rijksmuseum exposes among others works of Jacob van Ruysdael, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn.

Hotel Museumzicht is that antique little hotel (14 rooms) on a top location and in a beautiful art nouveau street, that could make your trip memorable. Breakfast with a view on the beautiful Rijksmuseum. Straight in front is the Museumsquare. Also close by are the Van Gogh Museum, the Modern Art museum (rebuilding), the famous Concerthall and the Vondelpark. Down the street is a charming old swimming pool, canalboattrip start and bicycle rental. Over the bridge awaits the Leidseplein with its nightlife, coffeeshops, casino, theatres, clubs and dancings, Jazz and Bluescafe's, Hardrock Café, the "Pop Temples" Paradiso and the Milky Way, etc.etc. From Central Station Trams 2 and 5 take 12 minutes (from 6.00 to 24.00) and they stop right in front of the hotel. From Station South Tram 5 takes you here, in approx. 10 minutes. From and to the airport Bus 197 also stops right in front of the hotel, every 15 minutes (5.00 to 24.00). The ride takes about 30 minutes and costs about 4 Euro. Name of the stop:" Hobbemastraat". This corner house was built at the end of the 19th century and the hotel was started in 1938 in the upper half. Apart from the modern box-spring beds, all rooms are differently furnished, with originals from different periods, starting from art nouveau through 50's and 60's and later. All rooms have a fine view. Though some rooms have private facilities, for most the shared shower and toilet are just outside the room, on the same floor. Most still have the old colourful tiles. There is no curfew, of course. Once checked-in you can come and go as you please. There is a public phone and in the lounge are a small library (with book-exchange) and our only TV. Free Wi-Fi. Our small staff will be happy to help you make the most of your stay.

- No elevator. Please take account of the steep stairs! Big suitcases are not advisable. Rather bring 2 smaller ones.
-Traditional Dutch breakfast is served between 8:30 and 10:30. Fresh bread from the bakery down the street. Much praised Biological coffee. Biological black tea and other kinds. Biological ham and eggs brought by a farmer who lets the animals roam free. Light classical music and Jazz in our beautiful and sunny breakfast room with a close view on the Rijksmuseum and the Museumsquare.
-The rooms are not big, but clean and tastefully decorated. Each has hot and cold water, but most rooms have shared shower and toilet (on the same floor.
All have a wide view; most of them on the Rijksmuseum. -Pets are not allowed. -Public Transport: Tram 2 and tram 5 from Central Station stop in front of us, at the stop for the Rijksmuseum called \"Hobbemastraat\". From here there are good connections to the RAI Congress Centre, Station South/W.T.C. and the Free University. Bus 197 to and from Schiphol Airport stop right in front of the house. It takes only 30 minutes and 4 euro. -Of course, the hotel meets all international fire and safety requirements. In accordance with European rules, we have a no-smoking policy. We also aim at a Green Management.
-As we are a hotel for individual travellers, we do not accept any group reservations.
Cancellation- and additional conditions Hotel Museumzicht
We only make bookings with a credit card quarantee, whereby no money is transferred. If no creditcard is available please contact us directly. Reservations can be cancelled free of cost untill 4 days in advance. In case of no-show or late cancellation the cost of the first night is billed to your card. No check-in between 22:00 and 8.30 please. Sorry, no groups (more than 5 pers}. Bookings for more than 2 rooms for the same period can only be made by email.
