Jordaan
The Jordaan is a district of the city of Amsterdam. The Anne Frank House, where Anne Frank went into hiding during World War II, is located on the edge of the Jordaan, on the Prinsengracht canal. Rembrandt spent the last years of his life in the Jordaan, on the Rozengracht canal. He was buried in the Westerkerk church, at the corner of Rozengracht and Prinsengracht, just beyond the Jordaan.
The Jordaan is home to many art galleries, particularly for modern art. The neighbourhood is also dotted with speciality shops and restaurants, and markets are held regularly. The most common theory on the origin of the name is as a derivation of the French word jardin, meaning garden. Most streets and canals in the Jordaan are named after trees and flowers. Another theory is that the Prinsengracht canal was once nicknamed Jordaan (the Dutch name for the river Jordan), and that the neighbourhood beyond the canal came to be called this as well.

Hotel van Onna, Amsterdam
Bloemgracht 102/104/108, 1015 TN, Amsterdam Book a room at Hotel van Onna Book
The hotel van Onna is a cozy hotel in the heart of Amsterdam inmidst of the Jordaan quarter. It is located near the Royale Palace and the Dam. All main tourist attractions can easily be found within walking distance.
We have a total of 41 rooms, each with private showers and toilets. The rooms are simple but practical, neat and clean. All the rooms on the front side have the view of the canal and the rooms on the backside are tranquil situated.
The hotel consists of three very beautiful canal houses on the peaceful Bloemgracht. One of the buildings is a monumental canal house from the year 1644. The middle building (nr. 104) is the main entrance and is a more modern canal house. The third building was originally an old warehouse. This is still to be seen on the heavy supporting beams in the breakfast room. In 1999 this building was completely renovated.
The Jordaan, this colourful, most sung about neighbourhood is famous for its cafés, restaurants, unusual shops, but especially for its atmosphere. With its labyrinth of narrow streets and canals, is one of the most characteristic districts of Amsterdam. This area was founded in the 17th century when the unprecendented economic flourishing of the city created a huge influx of immigrants from all over Europe. The Jordaan emerged on the western side of the Prinsengracht, a densely-built district with small homes for artisans and artists.
Walking through the narrows streets it seem that you are far away from the busy shoppings areas. But these quiet streets have a lot of small shops, restaurants, bars and galleries.
